Ann-Marie Brierley
Ann-Marie Brierley, Welsh Tutor, Patagonia.

Where do you come from?
From the village of Furnace near Llanelli.

Have you got a family?
Yes, Mam and Dad have retired and live in Furnace. My sister, Helen, is married and lives with her family in Cardiff.

Where did you go to school?
I went to Ysgol Bro Myrddin and then to the University of Wales, Cardiff between 1991 and 1994 to study Welsh. I then did an MA in Folk Studies at St Fagans.

Where have you worked?
From 1995 till 1997, I was working in Carmarthenshire as a Welsh for Adults tutor and I was also a translator for the county.

You've worked in a school as well.
Yes. I was a teacher in the Welsh department at Ysgol Bro Myrddin from September 1998 till July 2001.

And that's when you came to Patagonia?
Yes. I was one of three who came here last year. I teach classes of children and adults here at the St David's Centre in Trelew and also in Puerto Madryn and Rawson.

Do you enjoy the work?
Yes, very much. The learners are very enthusiastic and we also have a lot of fun taking part in social activities.

What do you think of the country and the people?
It's a fantastic place, especially in summer! Everyone is so friendly and I've made some good friends here. We have lots of fun socialising. I'm especially fond of the asado - it's like a barbecue.

What about the future?
Well, the contract comes to an end in July. I'd like to stay here for a while longer, but we'll have to see.
