Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas
I was born in the Priory Hospital in Carmarthen. I was born in the Llandysul area in the West and then in Llanrwst in the Conwy Valley.
Have you got a family?
Yes. My wife - Mair Parry Jones - is Head of the Translation Department
at the National Assembly. There's also my mother, who's 85 and lives in
Bala.
Are there any children?
Yes, three sons. Cai who's a professional dancer, Meilir who works for
Barcud/Derwen television company, and Guto who works for Ffilmiau'r Nant.
Where do you live?
In Llandaf when I work for the Assembly, but there's also a house in Betws
y Coed and I like going there at the weekend.
What are your interests?
Walking. I love walking in the mountains of Snowdonia. I also go walking
and running in the park in Llandaf.
Do you have any other hobbies?
Yes. Films, music and pictures. I also enjoy cooking and love preparing
supper for friends.
Do you enjoy working in the Assembly?
Yes, very much. I like the company of politicians and journalists.
What about the role of the Welsh language in the Assembly?
It's important that the Assembly works in both Welsh and English. I'm
glad that many people choose to use Welsh in the Chamber and in committees
and many of them are Welsh learners.
Do you have a message for Welsh learners?
Yes. Keep at it and enjoy yourselves! It's important for people to speak
Welsh both socially and at work.
