This year’s National Eisteddfod is held at Wrexham.

Every year, there are special competitions dedicated to Welsh learners of all levels. Details are to be had on the document Rhestr Testunau (in Welsh only). There are competitions on the stage (singing, reciting a and acting) and compositions (fiction, poetry and teaching material). You don’t have to compete by yourself, as some competitions are for choirs, drama or group work – why not compete with people from your Welsh class?

Important:
The closing date for entries for the compositions is 1 April 2011, and the closing date for the stage is 1 May 2011. The entry form for compositions is here (Welsh only), and the stage here. Here’s a list of other important dates.

On the Eisteddfod field (Y Maes) each year, there is a tent called Maes D which is especially for Welsh learners. They’re usually looking for volunteers to work for a few hours. How about it? This years’ Welsh Learner Officer is Enfys Thomas.

There are two important events this week in which you can vote:

On Thursday 3rd of March, there will be a referendum on the law-making powers of the National Assembly for Wales. If you’re unsure how you’ll be voting, there’s more information on the Electoral Commission’s website.

On Sunday the 6th of March, the 2011 Cân i Gymru competition is broadcast live from Pontrhydfendigaid Pavilion.
The Cân i Gymru competition started back in 1969 – here’s a list of previous winners.
