Organ Donation

Are you a person who carries a 'Donor Card'? Are you a person who wants your organs to go to someone after you're dead? Do you believe that having the choice to donate your organs or not is an important choice? Or do you, like the Welsh Government, believe in a system of opting out of organ donation?

The Government has published a White Paper consultation on the matter and the time for consulting comes to an end on 31 January 2012. The Government will then present a Bill on the matter in the Senedd; if the Senedd passes the Bill, it's possible that Wales will move to an opt- out system by 2015.

A number of well known people have come out in favour and against opting out. One of those against the scheme is the Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan. Dr Morgan is in favour of organ donation and carrying a 'Donor Card'; but he is strongly against compelling people to donate their organs unless they have opted out. According to Dr Morgan, organ donation is a choice for the individual and not something for the Government to decide.

What is your opinion on the matter? Remember, if you want to have your say, you have to respond by 31 January 2012.
