Would you like help in understanding and following Welsh television programmes? S4C can help you with its subtitling service.
If you receive analog tv pictures and your set can receive teletext, you should be able to use your remote control to access S4C's subtitling services on Sbectel. Look at the top of your tv screen at the start of a programme; subtitles are available if the symbols TRANSL888 and/or 889 appear there. Both these services also offer help to the deaf and hard of hearing by drawing attention to relevant sound effects.
Press the 888 buttons on your remote control to get the English language service or 889 to get the new Welsh language service provided by Acen.
The old 889 service of simplified subtitles with explanations has been replaced with a full Welsh language service. You can now hear and see what everyone says – warts and all! To benefit fully from this service, you should have a good working knowledge and understanding of Welsh. Extra help for Welsh learners is now available here on the Acen website. Please click on HELP.
